Melrin BBC: Great Dragon quotes

In a land of myth and the time of magic, the narrator of a man’s destiny rests on the shoulders of an old dragon. His name: Kilagarah.

The Dragon’s Call

“No young man, no matter how great, can know his destiny. He cannot glimpse his part in the great story that is about to unfold. Like everyone, he must live and learn. And so it will be for the young warlock arriving at the gates of Camelot…a boy that will in time, father a legend. His name: Merlin.”

(Whispers) “Merlin.”
“Merlin.”
“Merlin.”
“Merlin.”
“Merlin.”
“Merlin.”

(Chuckles)
Merlin: “Where are you?”
(Dragon growls and arrives)
Dragon: “I’m here.”
Dragon: “How small you are, for such a great destiny.”
Merlin: “Why? What do you mean? What destiny?”
Dragon: “Your gift, Merlin, was given to you for a reason.”
Merlin: “So there is a reason?”
Dragon: “Arthur is the once and future king who will unite the land of Albion.”
Merlin: “Right.”
Dragon: “But he faces many threats from friend and foe alike.”
Merlin: “I don’t see what this has to do with me.”
Dragon: “Everything. Without you, Arthur will never succeed. Without you, there will be no Albion.”
Merlin: “No. No, you’ve got this wrong.”
Dragon: “There is no right or wrong. Only what is and what isn’t.”
Merlin: “I’m serious. If anyone wants to kill him, they can go ahead. In fact, I’ll give then a hand.”
Dragon: (Chuckles) “None of us can choose our destiny, Merlin. And none of us and escape it.”
Merlin: “No. No way, no. No, there must be another Arthur because this one’s an idiot.”
Dragon: “Perhaps it’s your destiny to change that.”
(Dragon flies away)
Merlin: “Wait…wait! Wait, stop. I need to know more!”

Valiant
Merlin: “Where are you? I just came to tell you whatever you think my destiny is, whatever it is that you think I’m supposed to do, you’ve got the wrong person. That’s it. Goodbye.”
Dragon: “If only it were so easy to escape one’s destiny.”
(Dragon lands)
Merlin: “How can it be my destiny to protect someone who hates me?”
Dragon: “A half cannot truly hate that which makes it whole. Very soon, you shall learn that.”
Merlin: “Oh, great. Just what I needed, another riddle.”
Dragon: “That your and Arthur’s path lies together is but the truth.”
Merlin: “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Dragon: “You know, young warlock, this is not the end. It is the beginning.”
(Flies away)
Merlin: “Just give me a straight answer!”

The Mark of Nimueh
Merlin: “Hello!”
Dragon: “Hello! The great warlock returns, as I knew he would.”
Merlin: “I need to know how to defeat an Afanc.”
Dragon: “Yes, I suppose you do.”
Merlin: “Will you help me?”
Dragon: “Trust the elements that are at your command.”
Merlin: “Elements? But what is it I have to do?”
Dragon: “You cannot do this alone. You are but one side of a coin. Arthur is the other.”
Merlin: “I don’t understand. Just tell me what it is I have to do.”
Merlin: “No!”
(Dragon leaves)
Merlin: “Please, help me.”
Dragon: “I have.” (laughs)
Merlin: “Oh, yeah, right. Thanks.”

A Remedy to Cure all Ills

Gaius: “Hello! It is me, Gaius!”
Dragon: “How old a man can become and yet changed so little.”
Gaius: “You have not changed either.”
Dragon: “20 years, almost a lifetime to make the short journey back to where you began.”
Gaius: “I’m not here for myself.”
Dragon: “The boy.”
Gaius: “You know about Merlin?”
Dragon: “You have struggled against his destiny, but you can no more prevent it than he can.”
Gaius: “So it is true then?”
Dragon: “Oh, yes. He and the young Pendragon one day will unite the land of Albion.”
Gaius: “But he is in danger.”
Dragon: “No, it is my jailor who stands in peril.”
Gaius: “Must Uther be sacrificed for the boy?”
Dragon: “Their time cannot come until his has passed.”
Gaius: “But is that time now?”
Dragon: (chuckles) “That is of your choosing.”
Gaius: “I will not choose between them.”
Dragon: “Then turn a blind eye. That is, after all, your talent.”

The Beginning of the End
Merlin: “Hello?”
(Dragon roars, scaring Merlin)
Merlin: “Do you have to do that? You sacred the life out of me.”
Dragon: “The young warlock. No doubt you’re here about the Druid boy.”
Merlin: “How did you know?”
Dragon: “Like you, I hear him speak.”
Merlin: “Why does he call me Emrys?”
Dragon: “Because that is your name.”
Merlin: “I’m pretty sure my name’s Merlin. Always has been.”
Dragon: “You have many names.”
Merlin: “Do I? How does the boy know who I am? I’ve never even met any Druids.”
Dragon: “There is much written about you that you have yet to read. You should not protect this boy.”
Merlin: “Why? He has magic. He’s just like me.”
Dragon: “You and the boy are as different as day and night.”
Merlin: “What do you mean?”
Dragon: “Head my words, Merlin.
Merlin: “Why should I not protect him?”
(Dragon leaves)

Merlin: “I need to know why you told me not to protect the boy.”
Dragon: “You seek my counsel, and yet you choose to ignore it.”
Merlin: “Just tell me why.”
Dragon: “If the boy lives, you cannot fulfil your destiny.”
Merlin: “What’s he go to do with my destiny? You said it’s my destiny to protect Arthur.”
Dragon: “Then you have the answer you seek.”
Merlin: “You’re telling me that little boy is going to kill Arthur?”
Dragon: “It seems that is up to you.”
Merlin: “No. You can’t know that for certain.”
Dragon: “You have it in your power to prevent a great evil.”
Merlin: “There must be another way. The future isn’t se in stone.”
Dragon: “You must let the boy die.”

Excalibur

Dragon: “Merlin.”
Merlin: “Do you know why I’m here?”
Dragon: “It may surprise you, Merlin, but my knowledge of your life is not universal.”
Merlin: “It’s to do with Arthur. His life’s in danger. He will die unless I can make a weapon that can kill the dead”
Dragon: “So what do you come to ask of me?”
Merlin: “Will you burnish it to save Arthur?”
Dragon: “The dead do not return without reason. Who has he come for?”
Merlin: “Uther.”
Dragon: “Then let him take his vengeance and the wraith will die without my aid.”
Merlin: “But it’s Arthur who’s going to fight him. You have to save him.”
Dragon: “That is your destiny, young warlock. Not mine.”
Merlin: “But if Arthur fights the wraith and dies, Camelot will have no heir. I will have no destiny.”
Dragon: “A weapon forged with my assistance will have great power.”
Merlin: “I know.”
Dragon: “You do not know. You can only guess. You have not seen what I have seen. If you had, perhaps you would not ask this of me.”
Merlin: “What do you mean?”
Dragon: “In the wrong hands, this sword could do great evil. It must be wielded by Arthur and him alone.”
Merlin: “I understand.”
Dragon: “You must do more than understand. You must promise.”
Merlin: “I promise.”
(Dragon roars and forges the sword)
Dragon: “Heed my words. The sword was forged for Arthur and him alone.”

Dragon: “Merlin.”
“Merlin.”
“Merlin.”
Dragon: “So does Arthur live?”
Merlin: “Yes, the sword worked. It was incredible, amazing.”
Dragon: “As I promised.”
Merlin: “But…”
Dragon: “Yes?”
Merlin: “Things didn’t quite go according to plan. I mean, they did, except it wasn’t Arthur who wielded the sword. It was Uther.”
(Dragon roars in frustration)
Merlin: “I tried but he just took it. Uther’s the king. I couldn’t stop him.”
Dragon: “The sword was born of the old magic. You have no idea of its power. In the hands of Uther, it will bring only evil.”
Merlin: “I’ll get it back.”
Dragon: “You have betrayed me. You are not ready to be trusted.”
Merlin: “I’ll bring it to you. You can destroy it.”
Dragon: “What is made cannot be unmade.”
Merlin: “So what do you want me to do?”
Dragon: “Take the sword far from here and place it where no mortal man can ever find it.”
(Dragon leaves)

To Kill the King
(Merlin clears throat, waking him up)
Dragon: “Well, young warlock. What is it you come to ask of me?”
Merlin: “I need your help.”
Dragon: “Of course you do. But this time, will you heed my words?”
Merlin: “The sorcerer Tauren is plotting to kill the king! He’s made an ally of Morgana. I don’t know what to do.”
Dragon: “Do nothing.”
Merlin: “What do you mean? If I do nothing, then Uther will die.”
Dragon: “Don’t you want Uther dead? It is Uther that persecutes you and your kind, Merlin. It is Uther that murders the innocent.”
Merlin: “But surely that doesn’t make it right to kill him!”
Dragon: “Only if Uther dies can magic return to the land. Only if Uther dies, will you be free, Merlin. Uther’s reign is at an end. Let Arthur’s reign begin. Fulfil your destiny!”
Merlin: “Wait! Where does it say that my destiny includes murder?”
Dragon: “Free this land from tyranny, Merlin! Free us all!”
(Dragon leaves)

Le morte de Arthur
Merlin: “I have failed Arthur, failed in my destiny.”
Dragon: “And yet you would not be here if that were true.”
Merlin: “He was bitten by the Questing Beast. He’s going to die?”
Dragon: “Does he still breathe?”
Merlin: “Only just.”
Dragon: “Then there is still time to heal him.”
Merlin: “I’ve tried. I cannot save him.”
Dragon: “You do not know how to save him.”
Merlin: “But can you tell me how?”
Dragon: “Perhaps. It will not be easy.”
Merlin: “I will do anything.”
Dragon: “Anything?”
Merlin: “Please, just tell me what I have to do.”
Dragon: “Very well. The Questing Beast is a creature conjured by the powers of the Old Religion. You must use the same ancient magic to save him.”
Merlin: “But the Old Religion died out centuries ago.”
Dragon: “The Old Religion is the magic of the earth itself. It is the essence which binds all things together. It will last long beyond the time of men.”
Merlin: “But how could that help me save Arthur?”
Dragon: “You must find those who still serve it, those who hold dominion over life and death.”
Merlin: “Where?”
Dragon: “Go to the place that men call the Isle of the Blessed where the power of the ancients can still be felt. There you will discover Arthur’s salvation.”
Merlin: “Thank you. Thank you.”
Dragon: “And Merlin, the young Pendragon must live, no matter what the cost.”

Merlin: “You knew this would happen. You had me trade my mother’s life for Arthur’s!”
Dragon: “You said you would do anything.”
Merlin: “Did you know my mother would die?”
Dragon: “I knew the price would be a heavy one.”
Merlin: “But you sent me anyway.”
Dragon: “We need Arthur to live.”
Merlin: “I’m not one of you!”
Dragon: “We are both creatures of the Old Religion. It is the source of your power.”
Merlin: “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Dragon: “Your destiny is to protect the young Pendragon until he claims his crown. And when he does, magic can be returned to the realm. Only then will I be free.”
Merlin: “Oh. So that’s all you cared about? I thought you were my friend.”
Dragon: “I am more than that, Merlin. I am your kin.”
Merlin: “No. The only family I have is my mother. And you had me murder her.”
Dragon: “Her life has not been taken in vain. We will achieve great things together, you and I.”
Merlin: “You will never be released! For what you have done, I’ll make sure you never see the light.”
Dragon: “Merlin!”
(Merlin blocks fire with his magic)
Merlin: “You won’t see me, again.”

Dragon: “Merlin! No!” (roars in frustration)

The Curse of Cornelius Sigan

Merlin: “Hello?”
“Hello? Please I need your help.”
Dragon: “You told me I wouldn’t see you again.”
Merlin: “I’m not here for myself. I’m here for Arthur.”
Dragon: “Arthur’s path lies with yours. You have made it clear that you do not walk in step with me.”
Merlin: “You can’t want Sigan to win. You’re not evil.”
Dragon: “At least Sigan knows where his loyalties lie. You have shown that you do not.”
Merlin: “So you will let Camelot fall?”
Dragon: “I did not say that.”
Merlin: “Then you will help me?”
Dragon: “To defeat Sigan, you will need a spell more powerful than anything you know.”
Merlin: “Please, I have to try.”
Dragon: “Very well, but you must give me something in return.”
Merlin: “What?”
Dragon: “A promise.”
Merlin: “A promise?”
Dragon: “That one day, you will free me.”
Merlin: “If I release you, what will you do?”
Dragon: “That is not your concern.”
Merlin: “I don’t trust you.”
Dragon: “Nevertheless, you must promise or Camelot will fall.”
Merlin: “I promise. Now please, give me the spell.”
Dragon: “Close your eyes and open your mind.”
(breathes spell into Merlin)
Dragon: “Few men have ever been gifted such knowledge. Use it wisely.”
Merlin: “I will.”
Dragon: “You made a promise, young warlock. And one day, I shall keep you to it.”

The Nightmare Begins
(Dragon roars and enters)
Merlin: “I need your help. Do you know where the Druids are?”
Dragon: “First, you must tell me why you seek them.”
Merlin: “That doesn’t matter.”
Dragon: “It does to me.”
Merlin: “I need to ask them something.”
Dragon; “I’ve lived for more than 1,000 years, watched civilizations rise and fall. Do not believe that you can lie to me.”
Merlin: “I need their help. Someone who I care about needs their help.”
Dragon: “You speak of the witch, the Lady Morgana.”
Merlin: “She’s not a witch! She’s my friend.”
Dragon: “She cannot be trusted.”
Merlin: “What makes you say that?”
Dragon: “It would be better if the witch…”
Merlin: “Stop calling her that!”
Dragon: “It would be better if the witch never knew the true extent of her powers.”
Merlin: “You’re wrong. I know her. She has a good heart.”
Dragon: “You’ve failed to heed my advice in the past and it brought grave consequences.”
Merlin: “I won’t abandon her!”
Dragon: (shakes head) “I will not give you the help you seek. If you pursue this course of action, you do so alone.”
(Dragon sighs after Merlin leaves)

Beauty and the Beast

(Dragon laughs)
Merlin: “This isn’t funny.”
Dragon; “Oh it is. It is. The thought of Uther marrying a troll. Was it a public affair?”
Merlin: “Public enough.”
(Dragon laughs)
Merlin: “Don’t laugh. If she can’t be stopped, Arthur won’t become king. Albion will never be born.”
Dragon: “I’m sorry. You are right, of course.”
Merlin: “How can we break the enchantment?”
Dragon: “These are not trifling tricks, troll magic is very powerful.”
Merlin: “There has to be a way.”
Dragon: “The only way you could break this enchantment is if Uther were to cry tears of true remorse.”
Merlin: “How do we make him do that?”
Dragon: “That I can’t answer. Uther’s heart is cold as stone. He’s never been sorry for anything.”
Merlin: “Thanks. I think.”
Dragon: “Young warlock! It was some time ago you promised to set me free. The help I give you is not unconditional.”

The Witchfinder
Dragon: “What is wrong, young warlock? You look so pale.”
Merlin: “I did a stupid thing. A stupid, stupid thing! And now Gaius is going to die for it.”
Dragon: “Gaius means nothing to me.”
Merlin: “But he means a great deal to me!”
Dragon: “Very well, tell me what has happened.”
Merlin: “A witchfinder has come. He’s arrested Gaius for sorcery but I’m the sorcerer.”
Dragon: “Yes, I suppose you are.”
Merlin: “I’m going to confess. It’s the only way to save him.”
Dragon: “Then your stupidity continues.”
Merlin: “I won’t sacrifice a friend to save myself!”
Dragon: “Bravely spoken, but Gaius is already doomed. If you confess, the witchfinder will just burn you both.”
Merlin: “But it’s my fault! Don’t you understand?”
Dragon: “All too well, young warlock, but understand this, if you were to die, you would endanger the lives of all those that rely upon you.”
Merlin: “There must be something I can do. There must be. Please, help me.”
Dragon: “Merlin, I see you are distressed by this, but I cannot help you because I do not know how to.”
Merlin: “I can’t just stand by and watch Gaius die. I can’t.”
Dragon: “I am sorry.”
(Dragon leaves)

Sweet Dreams
(Dragon laughs) “This is magic indeed.”
Merlin: “Everything I have tried has failed.”
Dragon: “From what you tell me, the spell has captured his heart.”
Merlin: “And his heart is controlling his brain.”
Dragon: “There is no magic that can break this enchantment.”
Merlin: “There must be.”
Dragon: “It has too great a hold.”
Merlin: “I cannot let Arthur die!”
Dragon: “Patience, young warlock. The solution lies in a force greater than you and I can understand. A force that has puzzled many minds.”
Merlin: “Please, I have very little time…”
Dragon: “A force…”
Merlin: “Just tell me!”
(Dragon laughs) “Why it is the greatest force of all. Love.”
Merlin: “Love?”
Dragon: “You must find the person Arthur truly loves.”
Merlin: “And then what?”
Dragon: “One kiss from her, will break the enchantment and he will desire Vivian no more.”

The Witch’s Quickening
Merlin: “I need your help.”
Dragon: “I’m sure you do, young warlock. But first, you must honor your promise.”
Merlin: “I said I would set you free and I will!”
Dragon: “When?”
Merlin: “When I know Camelot is safe. Please trust me.”
Dragon: “Why should I?”
Merlin: “Because you don’t have a choice!”
Dragon: “What is it you wish to know?”
Merlin: “What is the Crystal of Neahtid?”
Dragon: “To those who know how to use it, the crystal holds great knowledge.”
Merlin: “What kind of knowledge?”
Dragon: “Knowledge of what is, what has been, and what is yet to come.”
Merlin: “Do you mean, it can show you the future?”
Dragon: “Amongst other things, yes.”
Merlin: “The crystal has been stolen.”
Dragon: “By whom?”
Merlin: “The Lady Morgana.”
(Dragon laughs) “That witch does not have the power to wield the crystal.”
Merlin: “Does the Druid boy?”
Dragon: “Mordred? It is possible. Why do you ask?”
Merlin: “I believe they are involved in this together.”
Dragon: “Once before, I warned you of the Druid boy. It is his destiny to bring about Arthur’s doom. It may be that time is upon you.”
Merlin: “What do you mean?”
Dragon: “The ancient prophecies speak of an alliance of Mordred and Morgana, united in evil. But this union must be stopped. Whatever the cost.”

Dragon: “Merlin! I’m waiting, Merlin! You gave your word! Now set me free! Merlin! Merlin!”

The Fires of Idirsholas

(Dragon sleeping)
Merlin: “What’s going on? Why is everyone asleep?”
Merlin: “Please, not you as well. I need your help. What am I going to do?”
Merlin: “Don’t pretend. I know you’re listening to me.”
Dragon; “I don’t need to listen to you, Merlin. You always say the same thing, ‘Help me!’ And yet you refuse to give anything in return. Now you will face the consequence of that decision. Camelot’s end is neigh and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Merlin: “I know. I promised to free you and I will.”
(Dragon laughs)
Merlin: “I will. I promise.”
Dragon: “I no longer trust your promises.”
Merlin: “I swear on my mother’s life.”
Dragon: “Careful what you say.”
Merlin: “You have to help me. Please?”
Dragon: “Her life matters more to you than your own. This is an oath I believe you will honor.”
Merlin: “I will.”
Dragon: “It is one thing to cast a spell that puts everyone to sleep, the power to maintain it is a very different matter. It will need more than just words to break the enchantment.”
Merlin: “What do you mean?”
Dragon: “You must eradicate the source.”
Merlin: “Great! What is that?”
Dragon: “Not ‘what,’ but who. Such spells need a vessel. A constant living presence to give them strength. The source of this pestilence is the witch, the Lady Morgana.”
Merlin: “It can’t be.”
Dragon: “I have warned you about her, but you have failed to take heed. She is dangerous.”
Merlin: “No.”
Dragon: “And now she has chosen to turn her back on her own.”
Merlin: “How do I stop her?”
Dragon: “That is easy, young warlock. You must kill her.”
Merlin: “No!”
Dragon: “The spell is woven with magic of such power that even you are not immune. You must act now before it’s too late. If you do not, then Camelot will fall and Arthur will die. And the future you were destined to share, will die with you.”

Dragon: “You must steal a sword from the Knights of Medhir. Their blades were forged by the Old Religion. If you harness its power to your own, you will have the strength to break the chains with which Uther Pendragon keeps me prisoner.”
Dragon: “The time has come, young warlock.”
Merlin: “Where will you go?”
Dragon: “I am the last of my kind. There is but one road I can take.”
Merlin: “What does that mean?”
Dragon: “You will see.”
Merlin: “Before I do this, you promise me that you will not harm Camelot.”
Dragon: “I think there have been enough bargains. Don’t you?”

(Chanting) Ic bebeod thisne swurd thaet he forcearf tha bnede thara dracan. Unclce!
(Dragon roars in victory and triumph and escapes)

The Last Dragonlord
(Dragon attacks Camelot)

(Merlin chanting a spear that bounces off the Dragon)
Dragon: “Do not imagine that your petty magic can harm me!”
Merlin: “Why are you doing this? You’re killing innocent people!”

(Dragon attacks knights and knocks Arthur down)

(Merlin chants)
Dragorn. Non didlkai. Kari miss, epsipass imalla krat. Katostar abore ceriss. Katicur. Me ta sentende divoless. Kar… krisass.

“Dragon, I command you to stop this reign of terror. You have caused enough pain and suffering to these people. You must obey me and follow my will. For I have you under my power. You shall no longer bring death and destruction to this land.”

(Merlin picks up spear)
Dragon: “I am the last of my kind, Merlin. Whatever wrongs I have done, do not make me responsible for the death of my noble breed.”

(Roars but finds that Merlin didn’t kill him)
Merlin: “Go! Leave! You if ever attack Camelot again, I will kill you!”
Merlin: “I have shown you mercy. Now you must do the same to others.”
Dragon: “Young warlock, what you have shown is what you will be. I will not forget your clemency. I’m sure our paths will cross again.”
(Flies away)

The Tears of Uther Pendragon

(After Dragon rescues Merlin)

Merlin: “I didn’t think you’d answer my call.”
Dragon: “Merlin, I could not resist a dragonlord even if I wanted to.”
Merlin: “I’m grateful. Thank you.”
Dragon: “Lie still.”
Merlin: “Ow. My head.”
Dragon: “The serket’s poison is powerful. I have given you an enchantment that will help you heal, but it will take time.”

Merlin: “You shouldn’t have let me sleep.”
Dragon: “I had no choice, young warlock. The venom was too strong, even for your great powers.”
Merlin: “I don’t have time. I need to get back to Camelot. The kingdom is in danger and…it’s my fault. I should have listened to you. I should never have trusted Morgana.”
Dragon: “You did what you felt was right and that shows great courage. But trust is a double-edged sword.”
Merlin: “I thought, because she has magic, I thought we were the same.”
Dragon: “In some ways, you are.”
Merlin: “No. I will never be like her.”
Dragon: “You have learnt an important lesson, Merlin. Your determination to see goodness in people, will be your undoing. But I fear that your futures are now joined forever. She is the darkness to your light, the hatred to your love.”
Merlin: “I need to get back to Camelot.”
Dragon: “You’re not yet fully recovered, Merlin. And it’s more than three days’ walk.”
Merlin: “I have no intention of walking.”

(Dragon takes Merlin back)
(Merlin laughs) “Whoo!”
Dragon: “This is as far as I go.”
Merlin: “Thank you. I won’t forget this.”
Dragon: “Be careful, young warlock. The great battle for Camelot has begun. You must be strong, for Arthur’s destiny and the future of Albion lie in your hands.”
(Dragon leaves)

The Crystal Cave
Dragon: “You summoned me, young warlock? And to what do I owe the pleasure this time?”
Merlin: “I’ve been to the crystal cave. I saw Morgana make an attempt on Uther’s life.”
Dragon: “It does not surprise me.”
Merlin: “Well, I stopped her.”
“To change the future is no simple, matter, Merlin. To do so is fraught with danger.”
“I know, and as a result of my actions, Morgana is dying.”
“Then you should rejoice.”
“I want you to help me save her.”
“Merlin, have you learnt nothing?”
“I did not mean to kill her. All I wanted was to avoid the future that would have unfolded. To prevent Uther’s death, to prevent Camelot from falling apart.”
“I will not cure her.”
“She is Uther’s daughter.”
“Yes.”
“You knew? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“It makes no difference.”
“Well, whatever she was about to do, I stopped her.”
“The witch must die, as she should’ve done long ago. I will not save her.”
“I am a dragonlord. You cannot refuse me!”
“How dare you treat me such? How dare you abuse your power?”
“I command you.”
“Very well, but I warn you, the evil that will follow, is of your doing and yours alone.”
(Gives Merlin a spell)

The Sorcerer’s Shadow

(Merlin calls Dragon)
Dragon: “I was beginning to hope you’d forgotten me.”
Merlin: “I don’t think so.”
Dragon: “The problem is, young warlock, that you wish to talk but you don’t wish to listen. The last time we met, you chose to ignore my advice and overrule me.”
Merlin: “I…I’m sorry.”
Dragon: “A dragonlord should never abuse their power. What reason do you have to summon me this time?”
Merlin: “You are a creature of magic. And only a creature of magic can hope to understand. Uther is to fight a sorcerer in the tournament tomorrow. Gaius wants me to prevent him from using magic. But if I do that, there is every chance he will die.”
Dragon: “Your choice is a hard one, young warlock. Yet you like I must hold hope that Arthur will bring about a new age. An age where the likes of you and I are respected once again. If he sees his father killed through the use of magic, it will harden his mind forever.”
Merlin: “No. There must be some other way.”
Dragon: “To see one of your kin die is never an easy thing. But all great struggles demand sacrifice. I am sorry, young warlock. I wish I had some words to help you.”
Merlin: “Some choices are easy. Some stay with you forever.”

The Sword in the Stone pt 2
Dragon: “The land of Albion and the future we have all fought for was in peril.”
Dragon: “What is troubling you, young warlock?”
Merlin: “It’s Arthur. He’s lost the will to fight. He feels he’s failed his people. He believes he’s no longer destined to be king.”
“The fate of Camelot rests in your hands, young warlock. For you and you alone, can restore the king’s faith.”
“How?”
“You must make him believe that he can be king once more. I wish I could be of more help, Merlin.”
“No. I know how. The people who fled Camelot. Do you know where they’re hiding?”
“I am a dragon. I can cover many leagues in the blink of an eye. They shouldn’t be too hard to find.”
“Then we have no time to lose.”

The Coming of Arthur

Merlin: “I have to cross 20 leagues of hostile territory. I need you to take me.”
Dragon: “I am not a horse, Merlin.”
Merlin: “If you do not, then Morgana will have won. Unless that’s what you want.”
Dragon: “My allegiance has never been with the witch.”
Merlin: “I know. But is it with me?”
Dragon: “Yes, young warlock. It is with you.”
(Dragon takes Merlin)
Merlin: “Thank you.”
Dragon: “I warned you before, that in the wrong hands, this sword can do great evil. You must promise me, Merlin, that once its task is done, you must place it where none can wield it.”
Merlin: “I promise.”

The Darkest Hour pt 2
Merlin: “It’s all right. Thank you.”
Dragon: “Who is your friend?”
Lancelot: “I’m Lancelot.”
Dragon: “Of course. Sir Lancelot, the bravest and most noble of them all.”
Lancelot: “I’m not sure that’s true.”
Dragon: “We shall see. For now, there are more pressing things at hand. The Dorocha cannot be allowed to remain in this world. The sundered veil must be restored.”
Lancelot: “We’re on our way to the Isle of the Blessed, to help Arthur heal it.”
Dragon: “Indeed. But at what price?”
Merlin: “I know that the spirit world demands a sacrifice.”
“It demands nothing. It is the Calleach, the gatekeeper to the spirit world who asks such a price.”
“And there is no other way?”
“There is not.”
“Arthur intends to sacrifice himself to heal the veil. It is my destiny to protect him, You taught me that.”
“Merlin, you must not do this.”
“Then I have no choice. I must take his place.”
“From the moment I met you, I saw something that was invisible. Now it is there for all to see.”
“All that you see, old friend, is what you taught me.”
“It will be am empty world without you, young warlock.”

Aithusa
“I have never dared dream of such a moment, Merlin. Until now, I believed the egg would never be found, that I would be the last of my kind.”
“So the legend is true.”
“This is a chance…in a thousand, Merlin. You must retrieve the egg.”
“I know.”
“Then what is the matter?”
“Gaius has forbidden it.”
“Merlin, you are a dragonlord. It is a gift passed down from your father. He gave up everything in his life to save me. What do you think he would say? The egg harbors the last of my kind. I beg you, Merlin, in your father’s name, promise me that you will do everything in your power to rescue it.”
“You have my promise.”

“Is it still alive?”
“It can live for more than a thousand years.”
“So you are no longer the last of your kind.”
“It would seem not.”
“When will it hatch?”
“Young dragons were called into the world by the dragonlords. Only they had the power to summon them from the egg. As the last dragonlord, this solemn duty falls to you, Merlin.”
“How do I summon it?”
“You must give the dragon a name.”
“Athusia,”
(egg hatches)
“A white dragon is indeed a rare thing and fitting. For in the dragon tongue, you named him after the light of the sun. No dragon birth is without meaning. Sometimes the meaning is hard to see, but this time, I believe, it is clear. The white dragon bodes well for Albion, for you and Arthur, and for the land that you will build together.”

The Sword in the Stone pt 2

Arthur’s Bane pt. 1

Merlin: “Oh Dragon! I need to know about a Druid symbol. A black spiral, within it a thin yellow coil.”
Dragon: “It is the mark of a Vates, a Druid seer. Where did you encounter him?”
Merlin: “On my journey here. He warned me of Arthur’s bane.”
Dragon: “His bane?”
Merlin: “And then he showed me a battle. A terrible battle. Arthur was fighting for his life. I saw him wounded and I saw him fall.”
Dragon: “The Vates power of prophecy is unrivaled even by a high priestess.”
Merlin: “So this battle with come to pass?”
Dragon: “I do not know, young warlock, but one thing is certain: this was no chance meeting.”
Merlin: “You think I should heed his warning?”
Dragon: “There was a time when the words of the Vates were considered a gift.”
Merlin: “Then why do they feel like a burden?”
Dragon: “A wise man is not cowed by knowledge, Merlin. Instead he uses it to guide him.”
Merlin: “How?”
Dragon: “That is something only you can decide. But remember, the Vates singled you out for a reason. Now more than ever, it is you and you alone that can keep Arthur safe.”

The Dsir
(Merlin calls Dragon)
Dragon: “You were right to summon me, Merlin. The Dsir are the mouthpiece of the Triple Goddess. It is she who has decreed Arthur’s fate.”
Merlin: “What it is to be?”
Dragon: “The rune mark predicts Arthur’s death.”
Merlin: “When? When will Arthur die?”
Dragon: “The future is never clear, Merlin. You should know that by now. There are many paths. Not all lead to Camelot’s ruin.”
Merlin: “Do they lead to Mordred?”
Dragon: “The Druid boy? His and Arthur’s fate are bound together like ivy around a tree.”
Merlin: “I fear he is dangerous.”
Dragon: “There is good cause to doubt him.”
Merlin: “Is there nothing I can do?”
Dragon: “Sometimes to save the tree, the ivy must be cut. You had a chance to kill the Druid boy once before. If you have another, you must not fail.”
(Dragon leaves)

The Kindness of Strangers

(Merlin calls Dragon)
(Dragon saves Merlin)

(Merlin chuckles) “Thank you.”
Dragon: “It is my pleasure.”
Merlin: “For a second there, I thought you weren’t coming.”
Dragon: “I would never forsake you, young warlock.”
Merlin: “Are you all right?”
Dragon: “Of course.”
Merlin: “Your wing.”
Dragon: “I am tired, Emrys, that is all. But I shall serve you as long as I have the strength.”
Merlin: “If you’re ill, I can heal you.”
Dragon: “There are some things, even a warlock as great as you cannot overcome. I am old, Emrys. My time has almost come.”
Merlin: “No.”
Dragon: “It is the cycle of life, no more, no less.”
Merlin: “What will I do without you?”
Dragon: “You will remember me.”
Merlin: “Will I see you again?”
(Dragon leaves)

The Diamond of the Day

(Shouts in Dragon language)

Merlin: “Kilgarrah!”
Merlin: “I would not have summoned you if there were any other choice. I have one last favor to ask.”
(Dragon takes them to the lake)
Dragon: “Merlin, there is nothing you can do.”
Merlin: “I’ve failed?”
Dragon: “No, young warlock, for all that you have dreamt of building has come to pass.”
Merlin: “I can’t lose him! He’s my friend!”
Dragon: “Though no man, no matter how great, can know his destiny, some lives have been foretold, Merlin. Arthur is not just a king. He is the once and future king. Take heart, for when Albion’s need is greatest, Arthur will rise again. It has been a privilege to have known you, young warlock. The story we have been a part of will live long in the minds of men.”

The Dragon died peacefully, satisfied that Merlin had accomplished his destiny.
