The Enigma TNG vs HalusaTwin: Who Made it Better?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJoyVFyqHBU

As a longtime fan of both of these fan artists and a fan of DBS, I decided to compare the themes that they made for the characters. I am not an expert on music structure or technical terms but I decided to do this “contest” for fun like HalusaTwin did for one of his playlist videos…except I will rate which theme I think describes the character the best. The remixes are worth one point, the original tracks get two points. The one who wins the bonus round gets three extra points. Whoever has the most points at the end wins.

First off, we have the theme for Hit from DragonBall Super. Hit, the time-breaker assassin from Universe 6. He is tactful, powerful, and almost never misses.

Saiyan Enigma:

At the beginning, it is quiet and intense. A quick paced beat builds up to the main beat. The choir vocals adds to the haunting music and mixes well with the main synth beat. Fits well with the scene of Hit killing Goku.

HalusaTwin:
At the beginning, it sounds like a video game sound. The “Vegeta” bells are added. The drum beats provide energy and the background sounds make the theme sound slightly robotic. There are vocals in there, but much softer, more ambient. The theme does a great job with illustrating Hit’s technical nature.

Both earn two points

Second, we have the theme for Lord Beerus, the god of Destruction.

Saiyan Enigma:

This theme for Beerus is relaxing and sounds Egyptian like. The “foreign” vocals add a sense of culture and the guitar beat is a nice touch to the theme. Overall, this theme reflects Beerus’ lazy catlike regal nature.
HalusaTwin:

An ambient sound in the beginning and the “Vegeta” bells bring a touch of royalty. The guitar and the synths then work in sync to create a tense atmosphere. This theme reflects Beerus’ destructive nature. There is a brief pause, then the main beat starts again, with the bells from the beginning added in. The song finishes with the bells and the ambient sound once again.

Halusa earns two points because in my opinion, he portrayed Beerus’ nature better by adding a constant ambient beat to represent his destructive nature, rather than just his lazy nature.

The next character is Golden Frieza, the epitome of tyrannical evil…in stylish form.

Saiyan Enigma:

The song starts off quiet and ominous, with fractals of mystic-like beats and then three drum beats. It gives it an outer-space like feel, with a dark tone. Soft drum-beats and melody make it sound like it is in a movie. The violin sounds add to the ominous atmosphere. The faint evil laugh is also chilling. The beat then gradually starts to get faster, and the synths add to the intensity.  The chants of “Frieza” and the guitar-like sounds were perfect for the end.

HalusaTwin:

The song starts off quiet and ominous. The ambient sound makes it other-worldy. It does not sound like much at first, but then loud guitar and drum beats appear out of nowhere. This would fit perfectly with Frieza in battle, fighting the Saiyan heroes.

Both get two points. Enigma gets points for the theme sounding ominous and reflective of Frieza’s nature. Halusa gets points for the epic guitar battle sounds for the second part of his track.

Goku Black is the next character on the list. He Zamasu, the self-proclaimed god who steals Goku’s body to gain more power and complete his Zero Mortal Plan to kill all humans.

Saiyan Enigma:

Low guitar beats begin the track, along with synths mixed here and there. Then a dark, melodic ambient sound continues. Then loud epic guitar solo follows, reflecting Goku black’s personality. Then the fast-paced beat enters, making it ideal for a fight scene. Then there is a brief vocals, then outer-space sounds jump in. The beginning low guitar beats start, followed by the vocals and then the epic guitar solo once again. The same process repeats for a second time. The beat gradually slows down toward the end. The piano makes the theme doom and gloom until it ends.

HalusaTwin:

The song sounds dark, with outer-space-like sounds. The drums start later on. It sounds slightly divine in the middle, as if Goku Black was believing he did the right thing in a scene.

Enigma gets two points because in my opinion, his dark cinematic track fits Goku Black better as a menacing character, while Halusa’s music was a bit on the repetitive side.

The Hyberbolic Time chamber is next. This is the place where Goku and Vegeta trained with time working differently in the chamber.

Saiyan Enigma:

The remix starts with a violin sound and then progresses to an alien-like sound. The chime adds to the theme. The track gets quiet and briefly dark in the middle, then the main beat starts again. “Vegeta” bell sounds can also be heard. The guitar and violin sound add a dramatic feel to it. The song gets quiet briefly, then the beat starts again, but with violins mixing with the guitars, bells and vocals. The violin sounds then play on their own, with the mystical sounds before it ends.

HalusaTwin:

In the remix, an ambient sound starts first, adding a sense of wonder about the place. The familiar electronic beat then starts accompanied by drum beats. The bells do the beats instead of the chime. The soft guitar-like sound blends well with the rest of the sounds. The ambient sounds mixes with the bells at the end for a nice touch.

Halusa gets one point. This was hard to decide, but the bells in Halusa’s theme added a nice touch to the theme.

Pikkon is the next character.

Saiyan Enigma:

The remix starts with mystical magic chimes with a choir, which increases. This can reflect the Namakean’s spiritual natures.  The main beat then kicks in at a fast pace, ideal for describing a battle. The same process repeats for a second time. The choir then begins again, adding a divine touch, then the fast beat starts again with drums to back it up.  The song gradually ends with the same mystical chimes and an outer space sound.
HalusaTwin:
The remix starts with mystical sounds, except without choir sounds and more of a fast-paced drum beats shortly after. It brings a more constant beat to represent a battle. The fast-paced sound then starts up, sounding more “electronic,” in comparison to the previous remix.

Enigma gets one point for a slightly better version of the theme due to more emotion that is expressed.

Super Namek remixes are next. They are themes for the spiritual, powerful Namaken Piccolo.

Saiyan Enigma:

The remix begins with a church-like opening, with low vocals and an ambient sound, to match the spiritual nature of Piccolo and his race. Then an alien-like sound accompanies the ambient sound. Then bells and guitar blasts out of nowhere, reflective of his powers and no-nonsense nature in battle. There is a brief break with the ambient sound, then the guitar starts up again. The song ends with the ambient sound once more.

HalusaTwin:

The cover starts with several bell sounds. The drums and chimes kick in for the main beat. It gains a cinematic fell toward the middle.

Enigma gets one point for his beautiful melodic theme and more intense fast beat in the middle.

Super Saiyan Vegeta god theme

Saiyan Enigma:

The track starts with a choir with the sound of bells, making the theme heavenly and regal. It then sounds somewhat melancholy with the piano in the background. Then the guitar and the bells kicks in, as if to signal the start of a battle.  The music continues, reflecting Vegeta’s nature. Then the fast guitar plays, adding a fast-paced intensity. The song then slowly gets calmer before it ends.

HalusaTwin:

The song starts softly with bells added in. Then the piano adds to the emotion. A choir also adds to emotion. A violin-like sound then starts before the main beat with the guitar. It is easy to imagine Vegeta transforming and fighting to this theme. Then the piano comes in again to finish the track.

Both gain one point for the emotional melodies, a mix of instrument sounds and of course the great use of the bells in the themes.

Gokhan ultimate theme, themes for a fusion of Goku and Gohan.

Saiyan Enigma:

Not counting Scott Morgan’s guitar solo, this first sounds ambient and a theme for hope in hard times. The softer guitar mixes well with the mystical sounds.

HalusaTwin:

It starts with a cinematic ambient sound, bringing a sense of wonder and hope. The guitar starts and adds more fuel. Then the drums join the guitar beats, while still keeping it somewhat mystical. The catchy beat makes it sound Falconer-ish, a great way to keep the audience engaged.

Halusa gets one point for a more passionate sound portrayal of Gokhan.

Bonus round: Collaboration songs with Scott Morgan.

Saiyan Enigma: “Dragon Ball Z Gokhan’s Theme (Ft. Scott Morgan)

The remix starts off with an ambient theme, with a guitar screech-like sound. Then Scott Morgan does a fantastic job, bringing more flavor to Enigma’s mystical background music. The song sounds heroic, a perfect theme for Gokhan.

HalusaTwin: “DDS FusionZ: Ascended Infinity: HalusaMorganTwin [Scott Morgan and HalusaTwin]

The song starts off ambient and the guitar sounds by Scott Morgan provides a great introduction. The beat turns cheerful and inspiring, perfect for an ascendance song. The drums help add to the beat, makes the audience want to dance.

Both get three points because they did a great job with Scott Morgan and it is too hard to decide.

Final scores:
Saiyan Enigma: 12
HalusaTwin: 12

There you have it. Both of them are incredible musicians and I highly recommend you check both of them out.
