Synopsis
Midna
gets banished by Zant and ends up in Atlantis. She meets with Kida, the
Atlantian princess and they talk about their father’s reins and their deaths.
They exchange languages and magic spells. The warrior princesses then fight
power hungry Zant, his shadow beasts, and Lyle and his masked armed men. Zant
decides to turn Atlantis into Twilight and Lyle still wants the crystal for
himself to get rich. Milo and Link appear and fight alongside their princess
friends. Midna and Kida compare the crystal and the sols as sources of life and
power. Midna and Kida share their
similar stories of their ancestors: the Atlanteans using technology to dominate
other lands and the interlopers trying to control the sacred realm, both
leading to their undoing: destruction and banishment for both.
Beneath
the surface, far below the ocean, gallons of water fell to the bottom level.
The circular area above the waterfalls consisted of calmer waters. Spires of
black rock pierced the stale cavern air. With a closer look, one could point
out the earthly-colored buildings, bridges, and other structures camouflaged to
look like part of the rocks. Further ahead was a city with tall skyscrapers and
Greek columns.
From
up above, black pixels formed into a portal. Streams of pixels moved toward the
ground, forming together two figures. The first was a brown-haired princess in
a royal dress of purple and white. A crown adorned her head and her eyes were
blue. The only different thing was her pointy elvish ears sticking out
slightly. The other figure was a man wearing a green tunic, white pants, brown
boots and a long pointed green cap. He had brown hair and the same pointed ears
as his companion. He carried a blue shield on his back with a golden triangle
that symbolized the Triforce in the center. A sword was resting in a shactel he
carried with him. These people were none other than Princess Zelda and the hero
of Hyrule, Link. Hiding in Link’s shadow was a shadow imp with red-yellow eyes
and a fused shadow headpiece on her head. Her hair glowed orange, the ends of
her hair occasionally turning into a large hand as a weapon. “What is this
place?” asked Zelda, examining the ancient-looking structures in awe. The
shadow imp floated next to Link. “We were fighting Zant a moment before in the
throne room, but he just had to make a portal appear under our feet and send us
here.” She clenched her shadowy fists. “I swear I’ll kill that lunatic the next
time I see him!” Link gave a nod of agreement, but the brief flinch he gave
when seeing his friend angry told a different story. Link placed his hand on the purple hilt of
his sword. A creature that looked like a monkey was peaking at them from behind
a column. Then it disappeared just as fast. “I think someone is watching us,”
said Zelda. More monkey creatures came over, encircling them. As they came into
the light, Link could see they were actually people wearing enormous monkey masks
with glowing eyes. “More like some people,” muttered Midna. The tribal warriors
held out their speaks and whispered in a strange language. “Who are you? How
did you come into Atlantis?” one of them asked in Atlantean. Link and Midna
stared blankly back. Zelda waved her hand in front of her and the golden
triforce on her hand glowed. “My power of wisdom says that these people are not
from Hyrule. We must have traveled to another world.” Midna looked at Zelda, as
if trying to figure something out. She and Link had briefly defeated Zant, but
he had fled before she could deal the final blow. When Zelda had sacrificed her
life for a weakened Midna back at Hyrule, her spirit fused within her. Once
they fought Zant, however, the light of Zelda’s spirit had left Midna and
transferred back into her body. She had been able to transport herself to the
Twilight Realm to assist in the fight, but soon after, the portal had
transported them to this strange world. Midna was trying to figure out why
Zelda’s spirit had left her so soon and why she hadn’t transformed into her
true self after gaining all the fused shadow pieces. She didn’t have time to
think about it now, for the Atlanteans were mad at them for not answering. Link
stepped forward, sword at the ready, but Zelda held him back with her hand.
“Wait, Link. Let’s see what they want first. They could help us find a way
back.” “My teleportation magic is not working very well in this light,” said
Midna. She flew up in a shower of particles, only for the particles to fall
back down and pull her back. Zelda placed her hand on the ground and closed her
eyes. “There is a magic crystal here that seemed to serve as their life force,”
she explained. One of the warriors stepped forward and removed their mask. “Can
you help us?” the person asked. The person was a woman with light brown skin,
white hair, blue eyes and a tear drop tattoo under her left eye. Zelda stood up
and turned around. “How can you speak Hylian?” she asked. “You understand us?”
she asked. “Yes,” said Zelda. “Atlantis must have a root in all languages,”
said a voice. The voice was from a linguist who appeared beside the warriors.
He had brown hair, glasses, and had a thin, lanky structure. “I’m Milo by the
way,” he said, shaking Link’s right hand that was sword-free. Link got the idea
and put his sword away. “Where did you come from?” he asked curiously. “We come
from the land of Hyrule,” Zelda explained. “I come from the Twilight Realm,”
said the shadow imp. “I am princess Kida. Welcome to the lost city of
Atlantis,” said Kida. Link noticed the
people of Atlantis all wearing crystal necklaces around their necks. Kida
walked over to Link and noticed a wound on his arm. She held out her crystal
necklace and placed it over the deep cut. After placing her hand on it, the
wound was gone. Link smiled in gratitude. “Amazing,” said Zelda. “The crystals
give you healing powers. Are you immortal?” “Yes,” said Kida. “I am 8,854 years
old. I sensed magic from all three of you.” ‘Link and I have been reincarnated
over many lifetimes. We are in a constant battle with the Gerudo king Ganon. He
always tries to take over Hyrule and I feel like he has influenced Zant
somehow.” “I wish you well in your fight, but I need your help.” “What is it?”
asked Zelda. “My culture is dying” Kida stated solemnly. Link looked around and
saw other Atlanteans with white hair, tattoos and white-blue clothing. The teal
light from their crystals seemed to slowly fade.
“Well
I guess this is farewell then,” said Midna. Kida walked over to Midna, Zelda,
and Link. “Thank you all, for saving our people.” “Thank you for helping us
defeat the shadow beasts,” said Zelda. “Hopefully nothing else messes with your
world for a while.” “It was Milo who helped find the Twilight sols that Zant
had stolen,” Kida mentioned. Milo smiled and blushed. “I wonder how those
things work? Do they power your world, in a similar way that the crystal does
to Atlantis?” “Not in our world,” mentioned Zelda who stood beside Link, “but in
Midna’s world.” To answer the question Midna responded, “In a way, yes. It
provides magic and energy in my realm, like the sun in the world of Light and
the crystal in this world.”
“My
ancestors used to reside in Hyrule thousands of years ago. They were skilled in
the arts of dark magic, so much so, that they created a weapon called the Fused
Shadows. They tried to use this weapon to overthrow the three goddesses and
take over the Sacred Realm,” explained Midna. “My ancestors ruled Atlantis
thousands of years ago, back when Atlantis was at the surface,” said Kida.
“However, instead of using the advanced technology for good, the king used it
for war and to colonize other countries. Eventually, it brought us to our
downfall when a great tidal wave washed away what was left of our once proud
city. If it weren’t for the protective shield and the crystal’s power, we would
have been washed away as well. Us Atlanteans have resided in these caverns ever
since, and, though we are immortal, our culture was dying minute by minute.”
“My ancestors were banished to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses. Not even
our dark portals could help my ancestors get back to the Light world. The only
gateway between the worlds was the Mirror of Twilight, which was guarded by
sages. The Twili adapted to the Twilight Realm and my people became pure and
gentle…that is until Zant came along and corrupted them. He then corrupted me
into that hideous imp form…” “I’m sorry to hear that,” said Kida. “How did you
become the Twilight Princess?” “The people chose me to be their next ruler,”
said Midna. “The crystal only chooses those of royal blood,” explained Kida.
“That’s why it chose my mother and then me to save Atlantis.”
